Three Cruise Companies You Might Not Have Considered for Your Honeymoon (But Should)

Cruising can make for an amazing honeymoon: the romance of sailing to different destinations, the excitement of exploring new ports, the fun activities always happening on board—not to mention the great value! And while there are some amazing options available on more well-known lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Disney, here are three cruise companies you might not have heard of and should look into for that extra-special cruising experience.

MSC Cruises

MSC stands for “Mediterranean Shipping Company,” and while this line caters mainly to a European market, it’s starting to make its presence felt stateside with MSC Divina sailing 8 and 15-night Caribbean cruises out of Miami. The MSC Seaside, with its 360-degree wraparound boardwalk promenade, glass-walled atrium, and South Beach condo-inspired design, will make an even bigger splash when it debuts in early 2018. On the Mediterranean, the MSC Meraviglia is packed with high-tech features and original productions by Cirque du Soleil. Cruisers can customize their experience by selecting from packages such as the fitness-centric “Wellness Experience” or the lavish, all-inclusive “MSC Yacht Club.”

Hot tip: Going on a “familymoon” with your blended brood? Youngsters 11 and under sail free on MSC when staying in their parent’s stateroom.

Oceania Cruises

Are you and your spouse-to-be major foodies? You can’t go wrong with Oceania, which proudly boasts “The Finest Cuisine at Sea.” These aren’t just empty words either: the line’s Executive Culinary Director is none other than Jacques Pepin, who lends his name to specialty French restaurants aboard Sirena, Marina, and Riviera. Best of all, there’s no additional cover charge; with the exception of ultra-luxe experiences like the private dining room Privée or the wine pairing experiences in La Reserve, all dining venues are included. Additional inclusions—internet, shuttle service, and airfare under the “OLife Choice” program—make this an excellent option for honeymooners who want a little extra pampering.

Hot tip: Oceania’s enrichment opportunities both onboard and onshore make this an ideal line for mature, sophisticated travelers who want to truly explore their destination.

Uniworld River Cruises

It’s no secret that river cruising is hot these days, but what might be surprising is that more and more younger travelers are joining the retirees who have been the niche’s top draw. Uniworld is opening their arms to the Millennial market with “U by Uniworld,” a cruising experience that takes the best aspects of river cruising (the fabulous vistas, intimate luxury, and up-close-and-personal destination experiences) and tailors them for the 21-45 set. Two ships, designated A and B, sail the Rhine/Main/Danube and Seine respectively, covering the highlights of the European river cruise market.

Hot tip: A boutique line, U by Uniworld isn’t for honeymooners on a budget. But for couples who want to go all-out on a trip featuring incredible ports of call, top-notch service, and Instagram-worthy experiences, you can’t beat this river cruising experience.
